Now Ozzy is officially out of the newborn stage and is classed as an infant, I thought I’d share the products that have helped me get through life with a new baby. These are products that helped me survive, and helped Ozzy sleep, grow and play.

1. A Playmat
Ozzy loves his playmat. He can stay under it for ages batting at the little toys making them rattle and crinkle. This is the one I have. It has lights that he adores staring at, has bubble sounds if I want him to chill or fun music. His favourites are the pink octopus and the turtle as they rattle when they are bashed.

2. A Sound Machine
Ozzy used to stir at every little movement or noise at night, yet in the day he could sleep through the doorbell and the dog screaming. A white noise machine meant I could roll over in bed and the sound of sheets wouldn’t wake him. It is now part of his routine so he knows when it’s on, it’s time to go to sleep.
3. A Tummy Time Mirror
To help Ozzy strengthen his neck muscles and develop his brain I bought one of these mirrors that also comes with high-contrast cards. At first he was entranced with the cards when he could only see in black and white. Now he lifts his whole chest off the floor to smile and giggle at himself in the mirror.

4. A Sleep Sack
I love a sleep sack. It keeps Ozzy warm without the risk of a blanket covering his face. He also sleeps a lot better now he can’t kick it off and wake up cold. I have mine in various different thicknesses to cope with different temperatures, such as a 0.5 tog one that helped him sleep through the heat waves. Plus he looks like an adorable little mermaid every time he lifts his legs.
5. A Bouncer
I love having a bouncer, I don’t know what I’d do without one. It’s somewhere for Ozzy to sit while we eat. He will nap in it (while supervised) and if I can’t hold him then I can set it to rock so he feels like I’m there. Apart from his moses basket it’s probably the most used baby item in our house.

6. A Changing Table
Now all over social media everyone was posting about how you absolutely won’t need a changing table, it would be a waste of money and would sit collecting dust. However I can count on one hand the times I’ve changed a nappy not on my changing table. Yes it’s upstairs but it sort of prepares Ozzy for a nappy change. It’s also nice to have everything I could need up there, nappies, wipes, spare clothes, toys to entertain. I also love having only one room smelling bad and the thought of changing him on my sofa or bed grosses me out.
7. A Changing Mat
This goes hand in hand with the changing table. I wanted one that was large, had anti-roll sides and didn’t have any seams or little grooves for anything gross to get in. This is the one I have and it’s incredibly soft and so easy to wipe clean, plus it has straps for when Ozzy starts to roll.

8. A Night Light
To deal with those middle of the night nappy changes without having to fully wake baby up. I’m using this less now as Ozzy sleeps through the night but for the first 2 months it was amazing. The one I used is turned on with a tap and you can dim it by pressing and holding. The charge lasts an eternity and it’s bright enough to see everything without blinding your baby and waking them up too much.

So these are the products I would absolutely recommend if you are prepping for a baby or have just welcomed your bundle of joy to the world. Each and every product has been used pretty much daily, whereas some of the products I heard people badger on about have gone unused. I hope you found a few ideas for products that might make the newborn trenches slightly less horrendous.
